Archer in Command An Army: Line, Role, and Patch History
The Archer line — Archer, Longbowman, Flaming Archers — is the game's most decorated ranged family. Chain, role, patch history, and what is still unverified.

How do I build around the Archer line?
The Archer is the unit most launch-week armies were built around, and the one with the longest paper trail: a three-stage evolution chain, the site’s only A grade on the tier list, and two dated patch entries in its first ten days. This page collects what is officially documented about the line — chain, class, patch history — and marks what is still unverified.
What is the Archer’s evolution line?
The official info channel lists the chain verbatim:
| Stage | Notes |
|---|---|
| Archer | Base unit, Ranged class |
| Longbowman | Second stage, documented at launch |
| Flaming Archers | 3★ third stage, added by Update 1 (September 12, 2026) |
Each promotion requires Mastery Level 20 — the cap — reached through play, not purchases. That makes the line a long-term project rather than a pull: the upgrading guide walks the Mastery math, and the Update 1 units page covers the Flaming Archers stage in depth (its own page is here).
What role does the line fill?
Ranged class, breaker role in the army building framework. The job description has two parts:
- Shredding collisions — a push that crashes into your shield wall while archers fire over it loses the exchange badly. This is the core defensive pattern of the game.
- Unsetting defenses — on attack, ranged pressure forces defenders off set positions, creating the openings your line exploits.
The constraint is position: with a frontline in front of them they are a win condition; without one they are a snack. Cavalry flanks are the classic answer — which is why the recommended pairing is a shield class plus the Archer line, with cavalry of your own guarding the flank (unit types covers the full rock-paper-scissors).
What has changed in patches?
Two dated entries touch the line directly:
- September 8 — Archer bug fixed. The official update-log post names the Archer in a bug fix; no numbers changed.
- September 13 — range lessened. The balance patch one day after Update 1 lessened the range of archer, longbowman, crossbow, and flaming archer. The entire family now positions closer than launch week. The full log lives on the patch history page.
The ranged class also gained a sibling in the same window: the Javelineer, a mobile 2★ thrower whose throws now ignore shield damage reduction — a different anti-shield niche from the Archer family’s volume fire.
How do you raise one?
Duplicates feed Ascension; battles feed Mastery toward the Level-20 evolution gate. A focused four-slot army concentrates both — the rarity guide explains why a common-heavy pull history is an advantage here, not a consolation prize. The summon odds page has the official rates if you are pulling on purpose, and the codes page funds the attempt (3,900 Gems across the six working codes).
What is still being verified?
No official stat card has been published for any stage of the line — the two developer sneak-peek cards so far cover the Javelineer and Imperial Halberder, not the archer family. Base stats, per-stage stat jumps, and the exact post-patch range values are unrecorded; they will be added here with dates as they verify.
