Spearman in Command An Army: Anti-Charge Line Guide (Pikeman)
Spearman → Pikeman is the game's documented anti-charge line — and the September 13 patch made it faster. Chain, role, patch history, and open questions.
FAQ
What does the Spearman evolve into?
Did the Spearman get buffed?
What is the Spears class good against?
Is the Spearman still worth using after Update 1?
The Spears class is discipline made flesh, and the Spearman line is its documented core: set lines, braced stances, and enemies who must come to you. Ten days into the game’s life the class has gone from one chain to four — and the launch line itself caught a buff. This page is the record.
What is the Spearman’s evolution line?
The official info channel lists it among the launch chains:
| Stage | Notes |
|---|---|
| Spearman | Base unit, Spears class |
| Pikeman | Second stage — the heavier point of the same discipline |
Promotion gates on Mastery Level 20, the cap, reached through play (upgrading guide). The complete chain table — all four Spears-class lines included — lives on the evolution paths page.
What role does the line fill?
Breaker by way of discipline — in the army building role table, Spears share the breaker slot with Ranged, but the mechanism is different: where archers shred a push from behind the wall, a spear line punishes the push by being the wall that charges die on. The classic deployment is set-piece defense — Spears behind or beside shields, waiting (attack vs defend covers when that posture wins).
The mirror image is the weakness: the class’s power is the standoff, so caught moving or flanked it loses the thing that made it scary. Cavalry wins the space before the fight (unit types maps the full triangle); the spear line wins the moment cavalry commits anyway.
What has changed in patches?
- September 13 — speed increased. The official balance patch raised spearman and pikeman speed — faster feet for the anti-charge job, and a direct buff to this line (patch history).
- Update 1 (September 12) — the class deepened around it. Spear Militia → Spear Vanguard and Halberder → Imperial Halberder both shipped as evolving 2★ spear-family lines. More class depth means more answers to cavalry-heavy metas — the class overview tells that story.
Which spear line should you feed?
The honest answer is the rarity guide’s whole argument: feed the one whose duplicates actually appear in your pulls. A two-stage launch chain you Ascend quickly beats a three-stage newcomer you never feed; the reverse is equally true. The four-slot cap means you likely run one spear line, not two — pick by your pull history, lock it, and pour duplicates in (army building).
How do you raise one?
Duplicates → Ascension; battles → Mastery toward Level 20. Pulling on purpose: the summon odds page has the official rates, and the codes page funds the pulls.
What is still being verified?
No official stat card exists for either stage — base stats, the Pikeman’s jumps, and the line’s Gem cost are unrecorded. Whether Pikeman gains anything beyond the heavier frame (a charge mechanic of its own, for instance) is unknown until one verifies in-game. Each fact lands here with a date as it confirms.
